EXTRAVAGANT POLITIC-TO-BE-PRESIDENT OF ARGENTINA IS SUED FOR PONZI SCHEME
This time on a pedestal, we have Mr. Javier Milei.
If you haven’t heard about Milei, well, this is a short background about this colorful and rebellious persona:
He is an economics professor, owning two Master’s Degrees;
One time he officially called the central bank a “scam”;
He is an ex-rock singer who used to play in a band “Everest”, covering Rolling Stones songs (that’s why he usually appears in a leather jacket)
He also is an ex-soccer goalkeeper;
He states that he’s a Tantra instructor (I won’t go deeper into this, though);
He has a nickname “el Peluca” (meaning, the wig), which refers to his unusual and eccentric hairstyle (Boris Johnson vibes here?);
In 2020, Javier entered the political world, and now he is an Argentine libertarian politician serving as the federal deputy of Buenos Aires;
He is well-known for often appearances on TV and various talk shows, loudly commenting and criticizing his colleagues and, in general, denouncing Argentina’s politics;
He also wants to become Argentina's president, and many young people are here for it.
Regarding everything I said about Milei, he is a true crypto fan, a true Bitcoiner.
Javier Milei promoted a " CoinX " crypto project with a “Beat inflation!” motto. It seemed like a good and up-and-coming project at first.
On their official website, CoinX states that they invest for their customers in “Cryptocurrencies and Wall Street with cutting-edge technology, artificial intelligence, bots and a team of expert traders”.
They also say that:
Investors can earn the highest monthly interest;
Invested money can be withdrawn month by month or reinvested as many times as the customer wants to obtain the best return on the market;
They make diversified investments that will allow users to maximize returns and minimize risk.
So, Javier was a huge admirer of this project and promoted it not once, not twice, but on multiple occasions. This is one of the posts where Javier showed his love for the CoinX:
It said: “I had the pleasure of meeting the @coinx.world offices and their team.
They are revolutionizing the way of investing to help Argentines escape from inflation. From now on, you can simulate your investment in pesos, dollars or cryptocurrencies and obtain a profit.
Write them @coinx.world from me, so they advise you with the best!”
Some people bought this lovely idea. We mustn't forget how sensitive Argentina's economic situation is, so naturally, people just believed these promises and “big returns”. However, it turned out to be just another scam and clearly a Ponzi scheme; now, CoinX users even can’t get their investments back.
And Javier Milei is being sued for promoting this Ponzi scheme to more than 1.3 million followers of his. According to the document filed by a lawyer, investors lost nearly $300k.
Bottom line: the one who called the central bank a scam became a scammer himself. Feel the irony?
TELEGRAM CEO LOVES NFTS
“Let's see if we can add a little bit of Web 3.0 to Telegram in the coming weeks,” Telegram CEO Pavel Durov said.
How come, you ask?
Durov loved the success of domain name auctions by the Open Network (TON), a blockchain designed by the Telegram developers team.
The sale was impressive as more than 2000 “.ton” domain names were sold; that totaled almost 2.4 million Toncoin (a native token of TON Network), netting around $3 million.
So, that is why a light bulb flashed above Durov’s head, and he got an idea of Telegram’s usernames and channel links to make as NFTs and bring them to the market; basically, all the addresses could be auctioned on the blockchain.
Durov claimed, "If TON has been able to achieve these results, imagine how successful Telegram with its 700 million users could be if we put reserved @ usernames, group and channel links for auction.”
“This would create a new platform where username holders could transfer them to interested parties in protected deals – with ownership secured on the blockchain via NFT-like smart contracts,” he added.
Telegram CEO pursues even more goals - he thinks that later even stickers or emojis could become part of this NFT-marketplace-thing.
Somebody’s super motivated, isn’t he?
